Related Product Information for anti-GLS2 antibody
The protein encoded by this gene is a mitochondrial
phosphate-activated glutaminase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of
glutamine to stoichiometric amounts of glutamate and ammonia. This
protein is functionally similar to the kidney glutaminase but is a
little smaller in size. Originally thought to be liver-specific,
this protein has been found in other tissues as well. At least one
transcribed pseudogene has been found for this gene. [provided by
RefSeq].

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a mitochondrial phosphate-activated glutaminase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glutamine to stoichiometric amounts of glutamate and ammonia. Originally thought to be liver-specific, this protein has been found in other tissues as well. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

Uniprot Description

GLS2: Plays an important role in the regulation of glutamine catabolism. Promotes mitochondrial respiration and increases ATP generation in cells by catalyzing the synthesis of glutamate and alpha-ketoglutarate. Increases cellular anti-oxidant function via NADH and glutathione production. May play a role in preventing tumor proliferation. Belongs to the glutaminase family.

Protein type: Amino Acid Metabolism - arginine and proline; Hydrolase; Amino Acid Metabolism - alanine, aspartate and glutamate; EC 3.5.1.2; Other Amino Acids Metabolism - D-Glutamine and D-glutamate; Energy Metabolism - nitrogen; Mitochondrial

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q13.3

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; mitochondrial matrix

Molecular Function: protein binding; glutaminase activity

Product Notes

The GLS2 gls2 (Catalog #AAA9205614) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 498-524. The GLS2 Antibody (C-term E513) reacts with Human, mouse (Predicted Reactivity: Rat) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GLS2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). IHC~~1:10~50 WB~~1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GLS2 gls2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GLS2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
