Related Product Information for anti-GABA (A) a6 antibody
GABA (g-aminobutyric acid) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Its production, release, reuptake and metabolism occur in the nervous system.1 The GABA transmitter interacts with two major types of receptors: ionotropic GABAA (GABAAR) and the metabotropic GABAB) receptors. The GABAAR belongs to the ligand gated ion channel superfamily.2 The GABAAR, is a heteropentamer, with all of its five subunits contributing to the pore formation. To date, eight subunit isoforms were cloned: a, b, g, d, e, P, q, and r.1 Six a subunit isoforms were described to exist in mammals (a1-a6). The native GABAA receptor, in most cases, consists of 2a, 2b and 1g subunit. The a subunit is the most common subunit and is expressed ubiquitously. It determines the affinities for allosteric ligands shown by GABAAR. A possible role for the GABAA receptors in alcohol action has been derived from animal studies, in vitro cell models and human research which suggested an important role for GABAA a6 along with b2, a1 and g2, in alcohol related phenotypes.3 In Canavan disease (inherited leukodystrophy), low level of expression of GABAA a6 was reported.4

Product Notes

The GABA (A) a6 (Catalog #AAA4157614) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-GABA (A) a6 Antibody reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GABA (A) a6 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GABA (A) a6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GABA (A) a6, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
