Related Product Information for anti-R163 antibody
Follistatin is a high affinity binding protein of Activin originally isolated for its role in regulating the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Follistatin forms a group of interrelated factors with Activins and inhibins, members of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) superfamily. Activin, follistatin and Activin receptors are expressed in many tissues, where they function as autocrine/paracrine regulators of a variety of physiological processes including reproduction. Follistatin is an important regulator of pituitary FSH secretion.

NCBI Description

Follistatin is a single-chain gonadal protein that specifically inhibits follicle-stimulating hormone release. The single FST gene encodes two isoforms, FST317 and FST344 containing 317 and 344 amino acids respectively, resulting from alternative splicing of the precursor mRNA. In a study in which 37 candidate genes were tested for linkage and association with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hyperandrogenemia in 150 families, evidence was found for linkage between PCOS and follistatin. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

FST: Binds directly to activin and functions as an activin antagonist. Specific inhibitor of the biosynthesis and secretion of pituitary follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The R163 fst (Catalog #AAA3013842) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Follistatin (R163) Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Follistatin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB: 1:500-1:1000 IHC: 1:50-1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the R163 fst for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Follistatin, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
