NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily. The primary function of the encoded transmembrane protein is the induction of apoptosis triggered by binding to FAS. The FAS/FASLG signaling pathway is essential for immune system regulation, including activation-induced cell death (AICD) of T cells and cytotoxic T lymphocyte induced cell death. It has also been implicated in the progression of several cancers. Defects in this gene may be related to some cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2014]

Uniprot Description

Cytokine that binds to TNFRSF6/FAS, a receptor that transduces the apoptotic signal into cells (PubMed:26334989, PubMed:9228058). Involved in cytotoxic T-cell-mediated apoptosis, natural killer cell-mediated apoptosis and in T-cell development (PubMed:9228058, PubMed:7528780, PubMed:9427603). Initiates fratricidal/suicidal activation-induced cell death (AICD) in antigen-activated T-cells contributing to the termination of immune responses (). TNFRSF6/FAS-mediated apoptosis has also a role in the induction of peripheral tolerance (). Binds to TNFRSF6B/DcR3, a decoy receptor that blocks apoptosis (PubMed:27806260).

Product Notes

The FAS-L faslg (Catalog #AAA8532609) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The FAS-L Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's FAS-L can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin, ELISA (EIA). IHC-p: 1:50-200 ELISA: 1:10000-20000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FAS-L faslg for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FAS-L, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
