NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the SPFH domain-containing family of lipid raft-associated proteins. The encoded protein is localized to lipid rafts of the endoplasmic reticulum and plays a critical role in inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) signaling by mediating ER-associated degradation of activated IP3 receptors. Mutations in this gene are a cause of spastic paraplegia-18 (SPG18). Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2012]

Uniprot Description

SPFH2: Component of the ERLIN1/ERLIN2 complex which mediates the endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs). Also involved in ITPR1 degradation by the ERAD pathway. Interacts with activated ITPR1, independently of the degree of ITPR1 polyubiquitination. Forms a heteromeric complex with ERLIN1. Ubiquitous. Belongs to the band 7/mec-2 family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Endoplasmic reticulum; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8p11.2

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; protein complex; endoplasmic reticulum; cytoplasm; integral to membrane; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: protein binding

Biological Process: ER-associated protein catabolic process

Disease: Spastic Paraplegia 18, Autosomal Recessive

Product Notes

The ERLIN2 erlin2 (Catalog #AAA6296564) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The ERLIN2, CT (ERLIN2, C8orf2, SPFH2, Erlin-2, Endoplasmic reticulum lipid raft-associated protein 2, Stomatin-prohibitin-flotillin-HflC/K domain-containing protein 2) (MaxLight 490) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's ERLIN2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), FLISA. WB: 1:1000 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ERLIN2 erlin2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ERLIN2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
