Background: Dicer(DICER1), also known as endoribonuclease Dicer or helicase with RNase motif, is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the DICER1 gene. It is mapped to 14q32.13. The DICER1 gene, a member of the ribonuclease III (RNaseIII) family, is involved in the generation of microRNAs (miRNAs), which modulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level. DICER1 possesses an RNA helicase motif containing a DEXH box in its amino terminus and an RNA motif in the carboxy terminus DICER, also known as helicase-MOI, is required by the RNA interference and small temporal RNA (stRNA) pathways to produce the active small RNA component that represses gene expression. In addition, DICER1 is required for formation of the RNA induced silencing complex (RISC). It also cleaves double-stranded RNA to produce short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) which target the selective destruction of complementary RNAs.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a protein possessing an RNA helicase motif containing a DEXH box in its amino terminus and an RNA motif in the carboxy terminus. The encoded protein functions as a ribonuclease and is required by the RNA interference and small temporal RNA (stRNA) pathways to produce the active small RNA component that represses gene expression. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]
Uniprot Description
DICER1: a cytoplasmic type-III RNase that plays a central role in RNA interference (RNAi) pathways to produce the active small RNAs that represses gene expression. Possesses a DEAD box RNA helicase motif in its amino terminus and a dsRNA-binding motif in the carboxy terminus. Dicer, along with Ago2 andTRBP, are the main components of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). Fragile X syndrome repeats form RNA hairpins that are cut by Dicer but do not activate the interferon-inducible protein kinase, PKR. Four alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

Other application have not been tested. Optimal dilutions should be determined by end userss. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the DICER1 dicer1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Dicer, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
