Related Product Information for anti-PTGS1 antibody
Description: Rabbit IgG polyclonal antibody for Prostaglandin G/H synthase 1(PTGS1) detection. Tested with WB, IHC-P in Human, Rat.
Background: Cyclooxygenase 1(COX1), also known as Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase (PTGS1) or mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1, is the key enzyme in prostaglandin biosynthesis. The gene was approximately 40 kb long, with 11 protein-coding exons. There were 599 amino acid residues with a calculated molecular mass of approximately 68 kD. By analysis of a human/hamster somatic hybrid DNA panel, it was demonstrated that the PTGS1 gene maps to chromosome 9. Human prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase exhibited 91% amino acid identity with the sheep enzyme. Prostaglandin synthase 1 gene disruption in mice reduces arachidonic acid-induced inflammation and indomethacin-induced gastric ulceration.

NCBI Description

This is one of two genes encoding similar enzymes that catalyze the conversion of arachinodate to prostaglandin. The encoded protein regulates angiogenesis in endothelial cells, and is inhibited by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin. Based on its ability to function as both a cyclooxygenase and as a peroxidase, the encoded protein has been identified as a moonlighting protein. The protein may promote cell proliferation during tumor progression. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2014]

Uniprot Description

COX-1: May play an important role in regulating or promoting cell proliferation in some normal and neoplastically transformed cells. Homodimer. Belongs to the prostaglandin G/H synthase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The PTGS1 ptgs1 (Catalog #AAA176993) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-COX1 antibody reacts with Human, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's COX1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PTGS1 ptgs1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "COX1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
