Specificity
This antibody is generated by using a 22 amino acid peptide from porcine ChAT (GLF SSY RLP GHT QDT LVA QKSS) as immunogen coupled to KLH and injected in rabbits. The immunogen has 95% homology with human, rat and mouse ChAT sequences, and it has about 90% homology to the chicken sequence. The antibody is expected to cross-react with rat, mouse, human, rabbit, guinea pig and porcine ChAT protein. The antibody is routinely tested by western blot analysis.

Related Product Information for anti-ChAT antibody
Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) catalyzes the synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) from choline and acetyl-CoA in cholinergic neurons. ChAT serves as a specific marker for cholinergic neurons in both peripheral and central nervous systems. Dysfunction of cholinergic neurons underlies aspects of clinical symptoms found in neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Down and Rett syndromes.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes an enzyme which catalyzes the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This gene product is a characteristic feature of cholinergic neurons, and changes in these neurons may explain some of the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment. Mutations in this gene are associated with congenital myasthenic syndrome associated with episodic apnea. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene, and some of these variants have been shown to encode more than one isoform. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010]

Product Notes

The ChAT (Catalog #AAA4158095) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Choline Acetyltransferase (ChAT) Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Choline Acetyltransferase (ChAT) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), ELISA (EIA). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ChAT for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Choline Acetyltransferase (ChAT), Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
