NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is erythrocyte-specific and is thought to be part of a membrane channel that transports ammonium and carbon dioxide across the blood cell membrane. The encoded protein appears to interact with Rh blood group antigens and Rh30 polypeptides. Defects in this gene are a cause of regulator type Rh-null hemolytic anemia (RHN), or Rh-deficiency syndrome.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009]

Uniprot Description

RHAG: Associated with rhesus blood group antigen expression. May be part of an oligomeric complex which is likely to have a transport or channel function in the erythrocyte membrane. Defects in RHAG are the cause of regulator type Rh-null hemolytic anemia (RHN); also known as Rh-deficiency syndrome. RHN is a form of chronic hemolytic anemia in which the red blood cells have a stomatocytosis and spherocytosis morphology, an increased osmotic fragility, an altered ion transport system, and abnormal membrane phospholipid organization. Belongs to the ammonium transporter (TC 2.A.49) family. Rh subfamily.

Protein type: Transporter, SLC family; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integral; Transporter

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p12.3

Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: ammonium transmembrane transporter activity; ankyrin binding

Biological Process: erythrocyte development; bicarbonate transport; cellular ion homeostasis; carbon dioxide transport; transmembrane transport; ammonium transport

Disease: Rh-null, Regulator Type

Product Notes

The CD241 rhag (Catalog #AAA9408938) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CD241 Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD241 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). Western Blot: 1:500 - 1:2000 ELISA: 1:20000 Not yet tested in other applications. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD241 rhag for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD241, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
