Cluster of differentiation 14, CD14 is a pattern recognition receptor that plays a central role in innate immunity through recognition of bacterial lipopolysaccharide, primarily LPS.1 CD14 is a myelomonocytic differentiation antigen expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and activated granulocytes, it is included in the "critical" region that is frequently deleted in certain myeloid leukemias.2 CD14 has a dual role in nucleic acid-mediated Toll-like receptor (TLR) activation by promoting selective uptake of nucleic acids and acting as a coreceptor for endosomal TLR activation.3
