Beta-catenin (or beta-catenin) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CTNNB1 gene.1 It is a subunit of the cadherin protein complex and has been implicated as an integral component in the Wnt signaling pathway.2 beta-Catenin plays important roles in cell adhesion and gene transcription, and has been shown recently to be essential for the establishment of a bipolar mitotic spindle. Bahmanyar, S et al. (2008) identify beta-catenin as a component of the intercentrosomal linker and define a new function for beta-catenin as a key regulator of mitotic centrosome separation.3
