NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
Uniprot Description
Function: Essential for proper differentiation of ectoderm. Acts synergistically with neurogenic locus proteins Notch and Delta during the separation of neural and epidermal cell lineages in response to the lateral inhibition signal. Voltage-insensitive monovalent cation channel. Ion transport is blocked by the presence of divalent cations. Ref.1 Ref.5 Ref.6 Ref.7 Ref.8
Subcellular location: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein Ref.6.
Tissue specificity: Detected in all tissues with neurogenic abilities, for example the neurogenic ectoderm. Ref.6
Domain: Aquaporins contain two tandem repeats each containing three membrane-spanning domains and a pore-forming loop with the signature motif Asn-Pro-Ala (NPA).
Post-translational modification: Phosphorylated at its C-terminus. Ref.7
Miscellaneous: Separation of neuroblasts from the ectoderm into the inner part of embryo is one of the first steps of CNS development in insects, this process is under control of the neurogenic genes. Mutation in bib gene underlies "big brain" development defect.
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the MIP/aquaporin (TC 1.A.8) family. [View classification]

Product Notes
The BIB bib (Catalog #AAA7153737) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rabbit anti-Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) BIB Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's BIB can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), WB (Western Blot) (ensure identification of antigen). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BIB bib for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BIB, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
