ELISA (EIA), Inhibition, Western Blot (WB)
Biological Significance
BAFF, a member of the TNF family of ligands, is expressed in T cells, macrophages, monocytes and dendritic cells. BAFF is involved in stimulation of B and T cell function, and is an important survival and maturation factor for peripheral B cells. BAFF signals through three different TNF receptors TACI, BCMA and BAFF-R. The human BAFF gene codes for a 285 amino acid type II transmembrane protein containing a 46 amino acid cytoplasmic domain, a 21 amino acid transmembrane domain, and a 218 amino acid extracellular domain.
Immunogen
BAFF antibody was raised in goat using highly pure recombinant human BAFF as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution product may be stored at 4 degree C in the short term. For long term storage aliquot and freeze at -20 degree C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. This cytokine is a ligand for receptors TNFRSF13B/TACI, TNFRSF17/BCMA, and TNFRSF13C/BAFFR. This cytokine is expressed in B cell lineage cells, and acts as a potent B cell activator. It has been also shown to play an important role in the proliferation and differentiation of B cells. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2011]

Uniprot Description

BAFF: Cytokine that binds to TNFRSF13B/TACI and TNFRSF17/BCMA. TNFSF13/APRIL binds to the same 2 receptors. Together, they form a 2 ligands -2 receptors pathway involved in the stimulation of B- and T-cell function and the regulation of humoral immunity. A third B-cell specific BAFF-receptor (BAFFR/BR3) promotes the survival of mature B-cells and the B-cell response. Belongs to the tumor necrosis factor family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The BAFF tnfsf13b (Catalog #AAA534352) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The BAFF antibody reacts with Human BAFF and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's BAFF can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Inhibition, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BAFF tnfsf13b for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BAFF, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
