NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase family. This enzyme is a type II membrane protein. It exhibits strong activity to transfer GlcNAc to glycolipid substrates and is identified as the most likely candidate for lactotriaosylceramide synthase. This enzyme is essential for the expression of Lewis X epitopes on glycolipids. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

B3GNT5: Beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase that plays a key role in the synthesis of lacto- or neolacto-series carbohydrate chains on glycolipids, notably by participating in biosynthesis of HNK-1 and Lewis X carbohydrate structures. Has strong activity toward lactosylceramide (LacCer) and neolactotetraosylceramide (nLc(4)Cer; paragloboside), resulting in the synthesis of Lc(3)Cer and neolactopentaosylceramide (nLc(5)Cer), respectively. Probably plays a central role in regulating neolacto-series glycolipid synthesis during embryonic development. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 31 family.

Protein type: Glycan Metabolism - glycosphingolipid biosynthesis - lacto and neolacto series; EC 2.4.1.206; Membrane protein, integral; Transferase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q28

Cellular Component: Golgi membrane; integral to membrane; intracellular

Molecular Function: beta-galactosyl-N-acetylglucosaminylgalactosylglucosyl-ceramide beta-1,3-acetylglucosaminyltransferase activity; lactosylceramide 1,3-N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminyltransferase activity; UDP-galactose:beta-N-acetylglucosamine beta-1,3-galactosyltransferase activity

Product Notes

The B3GNT5 b3gnt5 (Catalog #AAA767001) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The B3GNT5 Rabbit Polyclonal reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's B3GNT5 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the B3GNT5 b3gnt5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "B3GNT5, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
