NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
Autophagy is a process of bulk protein degradation in which cytoplasmic components, including organelles, are enclosed in double-membrane structures called autophagosomes and delivered to lysosomes or vacuoles for degradation. ATG12 is the human homolog of a yeast protein involved in autophagy (Mizushima et al., 1998 [PubMed 9852036]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]
Uniprot Description
ATG12: Ubiquitin-like protein required for autophagy. Conjugated to ATG3 and ATG5. Ubiquitous. Belongs to the ATG12 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Autophagy; Ubiquitin-like modifier
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q21-q22
Cellular Component: pre-autophagosomal structure membrane
Molecular Function: protein binding; APG8 conjugating enzyme activity
Biological Process: mitochondrion degradation; innate immune response; C-terminal protein lipidation; negative regulation of interferon type I production; cellular response to nitrogen starvation; autophagic vacuole formation

Product Notes
The ATG12 atg12 (Catalog #AAA6463468) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The ATG12, NT (APG12, APG12L, HAPG12, APG12 Autophagy 12-like, APG12-like, Apg12 (Autophagy, yeast) Homolog, Autophagy-related Protein 12) (APC) reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's ATG12 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunofluorescence (IF), FLISA, Western Blot (WB). IF: 1:50-1:100 FLISA: 1:1,000 WB: 1:100-1:500 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ATG12 atg12 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ATG12, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
