Related Product Information for anti-Ago4 antibody
The four mammalian Argonaute family members are thought to share redundant functions in the microRNA pathway, yet only AGO2 possesses the catalytic "slicer" function required for RNAi. Argonaute (AGO) proteins are core components of small RNA-induced silencing pathways, which negatively regulate gene expression in a sequence-specific manner. In the post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS) pathway, AGO proteins bind to small RNAs such as miRNAs, tasiRNAs, or piRNAs and mediate gene silencing through degradation and/or translational suppression of the target mRNAs. AGO proteins are highly conserved and present in various life forms ranging from Archaea to humans. Each AGO protein is characterized by three conserved domains: PAZ, MID, and PIWI. The PAZ domain recognizes and binds the 3-end of small RNAs.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the Argonaute family of proteins which play a role in RNA interference. The encoded protein is highly basic containing PAZ and PIWI domains, and it may play a role in short-interfering-RNA-mediated gene silencing. This gene is located on chromosome 1 in a cluster of closely related family members including argonaute 3, and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2C, 1. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

AGO4: Required for RNA-mediated gene silencing (RNAi). Binds to short RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs) and represses the translation of mRNAs which are complementary to them. Lacks endonuclease activity and does not appear to cleave target mRNAs. Also required for RNA-directed transcription and replication of the human hapatitis delta virus (HDV). Interacts with EIF4B, IMP8, PRMT5, TNRC6A and TNRC6B. Belongs to the argonaute family. Ago subfamily.

Protein type: Translation; Translation initiation

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p34

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; membrane

Product Notes

The Ago4 ago4 (Catalog #AAA8100785) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Argonaute 4/Ago4 Antibody, Rabbit Polyclonal reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Argonaute 4/Ago4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin (IHC-P). IHC-P: 1:100-1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Ago4 ago4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Argonaute 4/Ago4, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
