NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the Argonaute family of proteins which play a role in RNA interference. The encoded protein is highly basic, and contains a PAZ domain and a PIWI domain. It may interact with dicer1 and play a role in short-interfering-RNA-mediated gene silencing. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Uniprot Description

AGO2: the endonuclease in RNA-induced silencing complexes (RISC) that cleaves siRNA/mRNA heteroduplexes bound to RISC. Ago2, along with Dicer and TRBP, are major components of RISC. Interacts with Dicer1 through its Piwi domain. Required for proper fibroblast growth factor signaling during gastrulation. Essential for embryonic development as well as RNA-mediated gene silencing (RNAi).

Protein type: EC 3.1.26.n2; RNA-binding; RNA processing

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8q24

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; polysome; mRNA cap complex; membrane; cytoplasm; cytosol; ribonucleoprotein complex

Molecular Function: mRNA binding; endoribonuclease activity; protein binding; miRNA binding; siRNA binding; translation initiation factor activity; metal ion binding; RNA 7-methylguanosine cap binding

Product Notes

The AGO2 ago2 (Catalog #AAA415707) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Argonaute 2 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Argonaute 2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Peptide ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Recommended dilutions: ELISA: 1:80,000 WB: 1:200 - 1:1000 Not yet tested in other applications. Optima dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the AGO2 ago2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Argonaute 2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
