NCBI Description

Adducins are a family of cytoskeleton proteins encoded by three genes (alpha, beta, gamma). Adducin is a heterodimeric protein that consists of related subunits, which are produced from distinct genes but share a similar structure. Alpha- and beta-adducin include a protease-resistant N-terminal region and a protease-sensitive, hydrophilic C-terminal region. Alpha- and gamma-adducins are ubiquitously expressed. In contrast, beta-adducin is expressed at high levels in brain and hematopoietic tissues. Adducin binds with high affinity to Ca(2+)/calmodulin and is a substrate for protein kinases A and C. Alternative splicing results in multiple variants encoding distinct isoforms; however, not all variants have been fully described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Membrane-cytoskeleton-associated protein that promotes the assembly of the spectrin-actin network. Binds to calmodulin.

Subunit structure: Heterodimer of an alpha and a beta subunit or an alpha and a gamma subunit.

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm › cytoskeleton. Cell membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side.

Tissue specificity: Expressed in all tissues. Found in much higher levels in reticulocytes than the beta subunit.

Domain: Each subunit is comprised of three regions: a NH2-terminal protease-resistant globular head region, a short connecting subdomain, and a protease-sensitive tail region.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the aldolase class II family. Adducin subfamily.

Sequence caution: The sequence CAA98970.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.

Product Notes

The ADD1 add1 (Catalog #AAA649962) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The ADD1, ID (ADDA, Alpha-adducin, Erythrocyte adducin subunit alpha) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's ADD1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF). Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence, ELISA, Immunohistochemistry. Dilution: Immunofluorescence: 1:100-1:500 ELISA: 1:10,000 Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin): 10ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ADD1 add1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ADD1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
