NCBI Description

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) is a lipid kinase that phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol and similar compounds, creating second messengers important in growth signaling pathways. PI3K functions as a heterodimer of a regulatory and a catalytic subunit. The protein encoded by this gene is a regulatory component of PI3K. Two transcript variants, one protein coding and the other non-protein coding, have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2012]

Uniprot Description

Function: Binds to activated (phosphorylated) protein-tyrosine kinases, through its SH2 domain, and acts as an adapter, mediating the association of the p110 catalytic unit to the plasma membrane.

Subunit structure: Heterodimer of a regulatory subunit PIK3R2 and a p110 catalytic subunit (PIK3CA, PIK3CB or PIK3CD). Interacts with AXL. Interacts with FLT1 (tyrosine-phosphorylated) and FLT4 (tyrosine-phosphorylated). Interacts with NYAP1, NYAP2 and MYO16. Ref.5 Ref.6 Ref.7

Post-translational modification: Phosphorylated in response to signaling from activated receptor-type protein kinases. Dephosphorylated by PTPRJ. Ref.8

Involvement in disease: Megalencephaly-polymicrogyria-polydactyly-hydrocephalus syndrome (MPPH) [MIM:603387]: A syndrome characterized by megalencephaly, hydrocephalus, and polymicrogyria; polydactyly may also be seen. There is considerable phenotypic similarity between this disorder and the megalencephaly-capillary malformation syndrome.Note: The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry. Ref.14

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the PI3K p85 subunit family.Contains 1 Rho-GAP domain.Contains 2 SH2 domains.Contains 1 SH3 domain.

Product Notes

The PI3K pik3r2 (Catalog #AAA515417) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Sf9 insect cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is N-terminal His!!Source Note||Recombinant full length human PI3K (p85beta) was expressed by baculovirus in Sf9 insect cells. AAA Biotech's PI3K can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Kinase Assay, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PI3K pik3r2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PI3K, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
