Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate OLA1 in samples. An antibody specific for OLA1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyOLA1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for OLA1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of OLA1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

This gene encodes a member of the GTPase protein family. The encoded protein interacts with breast cancer-associated gene 1 (BRCA1) and BRCA1-associated RING domain protein (BARD1), and is involved in centrosome regulation. Overexpression of this gene has been observed in multiple types of cancer and may be associated with poor survival. Pseudogenes of this gene have been defined on chromosomes 17 and 22.
