Related Product Information for GFRA4 elisa kit
Description: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate GFRA4 in samples. An antibody specific for GFRA4 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any GFRA4 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for GFRA4 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of GFRA4 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Overview: GFRa4 is a member of the GDNF receptor family. It is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol(GPI)-linked cell surface receptor for persephin, and mediates activation of the RET tyrosine kinase receptor. This gene is a candidate gene for RET-associated diseases. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. GFRalpha-4 is substantially different in sequence from all known GFRalphas, including chicken GFRalpha-4, and lacks the first cysteine-rich domain present in all previously characterized GFRalphas. At least two different GFRalpha-4 splice variants exist in rat tissues, differing at their respective COOH termini. GFRalpha-4 mRNA is expressed at low levels in different brain areas in the adult as well as in some peripheral tissues including testis and heart.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a transmembrane protein that functions as the receptor for persephin, a member of the glial cell line derived neurotrophic factors. The encoded protein undergoes proteolytic processing to generate a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored cell surface coreceptor that forms a complex with the receptor tyrosine kinase Ret. A complete lack of the encoded protein impairs production of thyroid calcitonin and increases the rate of bone formation in young mice. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]

Uniprot Description

Receptor for persephin. Mediates the GDNF-induced autophosphorylation and activation of the RET receptor. May be important in C-cell development and, in the postnatal development of the adrenal medulla.

Product Notes

The Mouse GFRA4 gfra4 (Catalog #AAA287638) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA287638 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse GFRA4. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GDNF family receptor alpha-4 (GFRA4), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
