Background: Eotaxin, also known as Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 11 (CCL11), is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family. These family members play an important role in the recruitment of leukocytes to inflammatory lesions. Eotaxin is a potent inducer of eosinophil chemotaxis leading to eosinophil migration in vitro and accumulation in vivo. It also interacts with CCR2 and CCR5 and can thus affect the responses of monocytes, which express both receptors. CCL11 selectively recruits eosinophils by inducing their chemotaxis, and therefore, is implicated in allergic responses. It has been found that eotaxin has high degree selectivity for its receptor, such that they are inactive on neutrophils and monocytes, which do not express CCR3.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene is one of several chemokine genes clustered on the q-arm of chromosome 17. Chemokines form a superfamily of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The superfamily is divided into four subfamilies based on the arrangement of the N-terminal cysteine residues of the mature peptide. This chemokine, a member of the CC subfamily, displays chemotactic activity for eosinophils, but not mononuclear cells or neutrophils. This eosinophil-specific chemokine is thought to be involved in eosinophilic inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma and parasitic infections. Uniprot Description
Function: In response to the presence of allergens, this protein directly promotes the accumulation of eosinophils, a prominent feature of allergic inflammatory reactions. Binds to CCR3.
Subcellular location: Secreted.
Induction: By TNF, IL1A/interleukin-1 alpha and IFNG/IFN-gamma.
Post-translational modification: O-linked glycan consists of a Gal-GalNAc disaccharide which is mofified with up to 2 sialic acid residues.
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family.

Product Notes
The Mouse CCL11 ccl11 (Catalog #AAA355363) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA355363 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse CCL11. AAA Biotech's Eotaxin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Quantitative sELISA (EIA). For quantitative detection of Eotaxin in mouse serum, plasma, body fluids, tissue lysates or cell culture supernatants. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CCL11 ccl11 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Eotaxin, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
