NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor)/VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) family. The VEGF family members regulate the formation of blood vessels and are involved in endothelial cell physiology. This member is a ligand for VEGFR-1 (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1) and NRP-1 (neuropilin-1). Studies in mice showed that this gene was co-expressed with nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes and the encoded protein specifically controlled endothelial uptake of fatty acids. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2011]

Uniprot Description

Function: Growth factor for endothelial cells. VEGF-B167 binds heparin and neuropilin-1 whereas the binding to neuropilin-1 of VEGF-B186 is regulated by proteolysis.

Subunit structure: Homodimer; disulfide-linked. Can also form heterodimer with VEGF. Ref.5

Subcellular location: Secreted. Note: Secreted but remains associated to cells or to the extracellular matrix unless released by heparin.

Tissue specificity: Expressed in all tissues except liver. Highest levels found in heart, skeletal muscle and pancreas.

Post-translational modification: VEGF-B186 is O-glycosylated

By similarity.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the PDGF/VEGF growth factor family.

Product Notes

The VEGF-B vegfb (Catalog #AAA690939) is an Antibody produced from Rat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rat Anti-Mouse VEGF-B reacts with Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. 1. Western blot: Yes (1:400-1000) 2. Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin): Yes (1:50-100). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the VEGF-B vegfb for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "VEGF-B, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
