Related Product Information for anti-TAF6 antibody
Initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase II requires the activities of more than 70 polypeptides. The protein that coordinates these activities is transcription factor IID (TFIID), which binds to the core promoter to position the polymerase properly, serves as the scaffold for assembly of the remainder of the transcription complex, and acts as a channel for regulatory signals. TFIID is composed of the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and a group of evolutionarily conserved proteins known as TBP-associated factors or TAFs. TAFs may participate in basal transcription, serve as coactivators, function in promoter recognition or modify general transcription factors (GTFs) to facilitate complex assembly and transcription initiation. This gene encodes one of the smaller subunits of TFIID that binds weakly to TBP but strongly to TAF1, the largest subunit of TFIID. Four isoforms have been identified but complete transcripts have been determined for only three isoforms. One of the isoforms has been shown to preclude binding of one of the other TFIID subunits, thereby reducing transcription and initiating signals that trigger apoptosis. [NCBI Entrez Gene Summary]

[provided by RefSeq, Jun 2010]

Uniprot Description

TAF6: TAFs are components of the transcription factor IID (TFIID) complex, PCAF histone acetylase complex and TBP-free TAFII complex (TFTC). TIIFD is multimeric protein complex that plays a central role in mediating promoter responses to various activators and repressors. Belongs to the TAF6 family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Transcription initiation complex

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q22.1

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; transcription factor TFIID complex; cytoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; DNA binding; protein heterodimerization activity; transcription factor activity

Biological Process: transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; transcription initiation from RNA polymerase II promoter; negative regulation of cell proliferation; viral reproduction; regulation of transcription factor activity; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; RNA elongation from RNA polymerase II promoter; transcription initiation; gene expression; negative regulation of cell cycle

Product Notes

The TAF6 taf6 (Catalog #AAA120136) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse monoclonal antibody Anti-Human TAF6 reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's TAF6 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Dot Blot (DB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the TAF6 taf6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "TAF6, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
