Related Product Information for anti-STAR antibody
Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (STAR) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the STAR gene. The protein encoded by this gene plays a key role in the acute regulation of steroid hormone synthesis by enhancing the conversion of cholesterol into pregnenolone. This protein permits the cleavage of cholesterol into pregnenolone by mediating the transport of cholesterol from the outer mitochondrial membrane to the inner mitochondrial membrane.
STAR is primarily present in steroid-producing cells, including Leydig cells in the testis, theca cells and luteal cells in the ovary and adrenal cells in the adrenal cortex. Low level of STAR expression in other tissues that produce steroid hormones for local use have been reported. STAR antibody is a sensitive and specific marker for Leydig cell tumor. It is useful for differential identification of sex-cord stromal tumor (SCST). Mutations in this gene are a cause of congenital lipoid adrenal hyperplasia (CLAH), also called lipoid CAH.

Product Notes

The STAR (Catalog #AAA370444) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The STAR, RMab (EP226) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "STAR, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
