Background: SMARCA4 (SWI/SNF related, matrix associated, actin dependent regulator of chromatin, subfamily a, member 4) is the central catalytic ATPase subunit of numerous chromatin-remodeling complexes, including SWI/SNF. These complexes are able to use energy from ATP hydrolysis to physically disrupt chromatin architecture of target promoters and facilitate the binding of transcription factors to nucleosomal DNA. SMARCA4 is a co-regulator of transcription and has been implicated in the activation and repression of gene expression through the modulation of chromatin in various tissues and physiological conditions. This protein plays a major role in many cellular processes such as DNA replication, repair and recombination. Mammalian SMARCA4 is usually associated with approximately 10-12 BAF subunits or other proteins involved in regulation of gene expression. SMARCA4 is part of the stem cell-specific BAF complex, esBAF, and is involved in regulating stem cell pluripotency.

NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the SWI/SNF family of proteins and is similar to the brahma protein of Drosophila. Members of this family have helicase and ATPase activities and are thought to regulate transcription of certain genes by altering the chromatin structure around those genes. The encoded protein is part of the large ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI, which is required for transcriptional activation of genes normally repressed by chromatin. In addition, this protein can bind BRCA1, as well as regulate the expression of the tumorigenic protein CD44. Mutations in this gene cause rhabdoid tumor predisposition syndrome type 2. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012]

Product Notes
The SMARCA4 smarca4 (Catalog #AAA388983) is an Antibody produced from Rat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SMARCA4 antibody (mAb)(Clone 5B7) reacts with Human, Monkey, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SMARCA4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Western Blot (WB). Applications Validated: ICC/IF: 2-10ug/ml dilution WB: 0.5-2ug/ml dilution. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SMARCA4 smarca4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SMARCA4, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
