Biological Significance
Prox1 (Prospero-related homeobox 1) is a divergent homeogene that regulates cell proliferation, fate determination and differentiation during vertebrate embryonic development. The protein is expressed in the developing lens and is also detected in embryonic brain, lung, liver and kidney; while in adult it is more abundant in heart and liver than in brain, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas (Chen et al., 2006). Prox1 is thought to play a fundamental role in early development of the CNS and may regulate gene expression and development of postmitotic undifferentiated young neurons (Misra et al., 2008)
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C in undiluted aliquots; stable for at least one year after date of receipt. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the homeobox transcription factor family. Members of this family contain a homeobox domain that consists of a 60-amino acid helix-turn-helix structure that binds DNA and RNA. The protein encoded by this gene is conserved across vertebrates and may play an essential role during development. Altered levels of this protein have been reported in cancers of different organs, such as colon, brain, blood, breast, pancreas, liver and esophagus. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012]

Uniprot Description

Function: May play a fundamental role in early development of CNS. May regulate gene expression and development of postmitotic undifferentiated young neurons

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Nucleus

Probable.

Tissue specificity: Most actively expressed in the developing lens. Detected also in embryonic brain, lung, liver and kidney. In adult, it is more abundant in heart and liver than in brain, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the Prospero homeobox family.Contains 1 Prospero-type homeobox DNA-binding domain.

Sequence caution: The sequence CAI15309.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.

Product Notes

The PROX1 prox1 (Catalog #AAA500038) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Prox1 reacts with Chicken, human, mouse, rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Prox1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Quality Control: IHC performed on each lot. IHC: 1:1,000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PROX1 prox1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Prox1, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
