(Western Blot Analysis: Representative lot data. Lysates from a yeast wild type strain (strain lacking the methyltransferase, delta PPM1), Lane 1, and a strain lacking the methylestrase, delta PPE1, Lane 2, were resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to nitrocellulose, and probed with anti-methyl PP2A, C subunit (2ug/ml). Proteins were visualized using a goat anti-mouse secondary antibody conjugated to HRP and a chemiluminescence detection system. Arrow indicates methylated-PP2A (~36kD). )

This gene encodes the phosphatase 2A catalytic subunit. Protein phosphatase 2A is one of the four major Ser/Thr phosphatases, and it is implicated in the negative control of cell growth and division. It consists of a common heteromeric core enzyme, which is composed of a catalytic subunit and a constant regulatory subunit, that associates with a variety of regulatory subunits.
