NCBI Description

This tumor suppressor gene is a member of a nuclear histone/protein methyltransferase superfamily. It encodes a zinc finger protein that can bind to retinoblastoma protein, estrogen receptor, and the TPA-responsive element (MTE) of the heme-oxygenase-1 gene. Although the functions of this protein have not been fully characterized, it may (1) play a role in transcriptional regulation during neuronal differentiation and pathogenesis of retinoblastoma, (2) act as a transcriptional activator of the heme-oxygenase-1 gene, and (3) be a specific effector of estrogen action. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]

Uniprot Description

PRDM2: S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent histone methyltransferase that specifically methylates 'Lys-9' of histone H3. May function as a DNA-binding transcription factor. Binds to the macrophage-specific TPA-responsive element (MTE) of the HMOX1 (heme oxygenase 1) gene and may act as a transcriptional activator of this gene. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: C2H2-type zinc finger protein; DNA-binding; EC 2.1.1.43; Methyltransferase; Methyltransferase, protein lysine; Nuclear receptor co-regulator; Transcription factor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p36.21

Cellular Component: Golgi apparatus; nucleus

Molecular Function: DNA binding transcription factor activity; histone-lysine N-methyltransferase activity; zinc ion binding

Biological Process: determination of adult lifespan; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of transcription, DNA-templated; transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter

Product Notes

The PRDM2 prdm2 (Catalog #AAA6220651) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The PRDM2 (RIZ1) (PRDM2, KMT8, RIZ, PR domain zinc finger protein 2, GATA-3-binding protein G3B, Lysine N-methyltransferase 8, MTB-ZF, MTE-binding protein, PR domain-containing protein 2, Retinoblastoma protein-interacting zinc finger protein, Zinc finger pro reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's PRDM2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP), Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:1,000 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PRDM2 prdm2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PRDM2, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
