NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is involved in the attachment of osteoclasts to the mineralized bone matrix. The encoded protein is secreted and binds hydroxyapatite with high affinity. The osteoclast vitronectin receptor is found in the cell membrane and may be involved in the binding to this protein. This protein is also a cytokine that upregulates expression of interferon-gamma and interleukin-12. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
Uniprot Description
osteopontin: Binds tightly to hydroxyapatite. Appears to form an integral part of the mineralized matrix. Probably important to cell-matrix interaction. Belongs to the osteopontin family. 5 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q22.1
Cellular Component: apical part of cell; cell projection; extracellular region; extracellular space; perinuclear region of cytoplasm
Molecular Function: cytokine activity; extracellular matrix binding; protein binding
Biological Process: biomineral formation; cell adhesion; decidualization; embryo implantation; extracellular matrix disassembly; extracellular matrix organization and biogenesis; inflammatory response; negative regulation of collateral sprouting of intact axon in response to injury; neutrophil chemotaxis; osteoblast differentiation; positive regulation of bone resorption; response to steroid hormone stimulus; response to vitamin D

Product Notes
The OPN spp1 (Catalog #AAA1488153) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse anti-Human Osteopontin monoclonal Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Osteopontin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB: 1:500-1:5000 IHC: 1:50-1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the OPN spp1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Osteopontin, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
