Uniprot Description

MBP: The classic group of MBP isoforms (isoform 4-isoform 14) are with PLP the most abundant protein components of the myelin membrane in the CNS. They have a role in both its formation and stabilization. The smaller isoforms might have an important role in remyelination of denuded axons in multiple sclerosis. The non- classic group of MBP isoforms (isoform 1-isoform 3/Golli-MBPs) may preferentially have a role in the early developing brain long before myelination, maybe as components of transcriptional complexes, and may also be involved in signaling pathways in T- cells and neural cells. Differential splicing events combined with optional post-translational modifications give a wide spectrum of isomers, with each of them potentially having a specialized function. Induces T-cell proliferation. Homodimer. Isoform 3 exists as a homodimer. MBP isoforms are found in both the central and the peripheral nervous system, whereas Golli-MBP isoforms are expressed in fetal thymus, spleen and spinal cord, as well as in cell lines derived from the immune system. Belongs to the myelin basic protein family. 6 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal

Cellular Component: plasma membrane; myelin sheath

Molecular Function: protein binding; structural constituent of myelin sheath

Product Notes

The MBP mbp (Catalog #AAA214141) is an Antibody produced from Rat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's MBP can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistology Frozen*, ELISA (EIA), Immunofluorescence (IF). Immunohistology - Frozen: Application Note: The epitope recognised by this antibody is reported to be sensitive to formaldehyde fixation and tissue processing. MyBioSource recommends the use of acetone fixation for frozen sections. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MBP mbp for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MBP, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
