Related Product Information for anti-MAP2 antibody
Microtubule Associated Protein 2 exists in two high molecular weight forms (2a & 2b) and a low molecular weight form. The expression of MAP2 is developmentally regulated and its multiple forms arise by alternative splicing of a single gene. This antibody is useful in studies of neuron structure in normal and malignant brain tissue and in Alzheimer's tissue.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the microtubule-associated protein family. The proteins of this family are thought to be involved in microtubule assembly, which is an essential step in neurogenesis. The products of similar genes in rat and mouse are neuron-specific cytoskeletal proteins that are enriched in dentrites, implicating a role in determining and stabilizing dentritic shape during neuron development. A number of alternatively spliced variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]

Uniprot Description

MAP2: a member of the microtubule-associated protein (MAP) family. Its exact function is unknown but MAPs appear to stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. They also seem to have a stiffening effect on microtubules. Expressed at high levels in neural tissue and the prostate. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported.

Product Notes

The MAP2 map2 (Catalog #AAA606423) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MAP2a,b (Microtubule Associated Protein 2a,b) (Biotin) reacts with Bovine, Chicken, Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MAP2a,b can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Suitable for use in Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry and studies of neuron structure. Dilution: Immunohistochemistry (Frozen): 1:500 Optimal dilution to be determined by researcher. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MAP2 map2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MAP2a,b, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
