NCBI Description

This gene encodes a soluble cytokine that is a member of the type II interferon class. The encoded protein is secreted by cells of the both the innate and adaptive immune systems. The active protein is a homodimer that binds to the interferon gamma receptor which triggers a cellular response to viral and microbial inflections. Mice deficient in this gene have increased susceptibility to viral, bacterial and parasitic infections and to several autoimmune diseases. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015]

Uniprot Description

Function: Produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens. IFN-gamma, in addition to having antiviral activity, has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages, it has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells and it can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons.

Subunit structure: Homodimer.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Released primarily from activated T lymphocytes.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the type II (or gamma) interferon family.

Product Notes

The IFNg ifng (Catalog #AAA335002) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse Anti-Human IFNg Detection Antibody, Biotin Conjugated Clone B-G1 reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's IFN-g can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), ELISpot (ES). ELISA Detection Antibody. This Antibody can be used as Detection in a human IFN-g sandwich Immunoassay to detect human IFN-g in combination with human IFN-g Capture Antibody (Cat n degree879.000.001). The suggested coating concentration range below should be optimised by each laboratory for each application. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the IFNg ifng for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IFN-g, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
