Related Product Information for anti-GAP43 antibody
GAP43 (B-50, F1, neuromodulin) is a phosphoprotein found in the presynaptic membranes of neurons, where it may have important roles in the maintenance of long-term potentiation and synaptic plasticity. Regulation of GAP43 activity may occur through PKC phosphorylation of Ser-41, which occurs during neurotransmitter release in mature neurons. Calmodulin may be a negative regulator of GAP43, since it binds to GAP43 when Ca2+ is low and neuronal activity is minimal. GAP43 is a major component of the growth cone in axons of developing neurons. Thus, it may have roles in axon development and synaptogenesis.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene has been termed a 'growth' or 'plasticity' protein because it is expressed at high levels in neuronal growth cones during development and axonal regeneration. This protein is considered a crucial component of an effective regenerative response in the nervous system. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

GAP43: This protein is associated with nerve growth. It is a major component of the motile growth cones that form the tips of elongating axons. Plays a role in axonal and dendritic filopodia induction. Identified in a complex containing FGFR4, NCAM1, CDH2, PLCG1, FRS2, SRC, SHC1, GAP43 and CTTN. Binds calmodulin with a greater affinity in the absence of Ca(2+) than in its presence. Belongs to the neuromodulin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cell surface

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q13.31

Cellular Component: filopodium membrane; axon; cytoplasm; postsynaptic density; plasma membrane; cell junction

Molecular Function: calmodulin binding; protein binding

Product Notes

The GAP43 gap43 (Catalog #AAA474372) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The GAP43 (N-terminal region) Antibody reacts with Human, Rat, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GAP43 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). ELISA: 1:2000 ICC: 1:50 IHC: 1:400 WB: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GAP43 gap43 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GAP43, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
