Application Notes
Assay Information: The bioactivity of this protein was determined by transmigration assay of human monocytes. Maximum chemotaxis is observed at less than or equal to 100 ng/ml.
Biological Significance: The monoclonal antibody CNA.42 recognizes a unique carbohydrate epitope found on follicular dendritic cells from a variety of species. FDCs are large cells in germinal centers of primary and lymphoid tissues. They present non-processed antigen and switch off apoptosis of B cells through a selection process resulting in selection of memory B cells. FDCs express many B cell markers such as CD21, CD23 and CD35. A role for FDCs as been shown in various infectious diseases such as AIDS and transmissible spongiform encephalitis. Staining with this CNA.42 monoclonal antibody is mainly restricted to the plasma membrane but in limited cases may also be cytoplasmic. This monoclonal has been shown to be a useful reagent for both flow cytometry and IHC analysis.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a small secreted protein that is expressed in follicular dendritic cells. This protein specifically binds to activated B cells, and functions as a regulator of antibody responses. It is also thought to contribute to tumor metastases by promoting cancer cell migration and invasion. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]

Uniprot Description

FDCSP: Can bind to the surface of B-lymphoma cells, but not T- lymphoma cells, consistent with a function as a secreted mediator acting upon B-cells.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q13.3|4q13

This monoclonal has been shown to be an useful reagent for both flow cytometry and IHC analysis. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FDCSP fdcsp for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Follicular Dendritic Cells, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
