Testing Data

(Mouse kidney lysate was resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to PVDF membrane and probed with E3455-10L (1:500). Proteins were visualized using an IgG (HRP) goat anti-mouse and a chemiluminescence detection system. Arrow indicates glycosylated EPO (~34kD).)

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a secreted, glycosylated cytokine composed of four alpha helical bundles. The encoded protein is mainly synthesized in the kidney, secreted into the blood plasma, and binds to the erythropoietin receptor to promote red blood cell production, or erythropoiesis, in the bone marrow. Expression of this gene is upregulated under hypoxic conditions, in turn leading to increased erythropoiesis and enhanced oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. Expression of this gene has also been observed in brain and in the eye, and elevated expression levels have been observed in diabetic retinopathy and ocular hypertension. Recombinant forms of the encoded protein exhibit neuroprotective activity against a variety of potential brain injuries, as well as antiapoptotic functions in several tissue types, and have been used in the treatment of anemia and to enhance the efficacy of cancer therapies. Uniprot Description

EPO: Erythropoietin is the principal hormone involved in the regulation of erythrocyte differentiation and the maintenance of a physiological level of circulating erythrocyte mass. Genetic variation in EPO is associated with susceptbility to microvascular complications of diabetes type 2 (MVCD2). These are pathological conditions that develop in numerous tissues and organs as a consequence of diabetes mellitus. They include diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy leading to end-stage renal disease, and diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic retinopathy remains the major cause of new-onset blindness among diabetic adults. It is characterized by vascular permeability and increased tissue ischemia and angiogenesis. Belongs to the EPO/TPO family.

Product Notes

The EPO epo (Catalog #AAA6244583) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Erythropoietin (EPO, EP, Erythropoietin, MGC138142, MVCD2) (PE) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Erythropoietin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, FLISA, Immunofluorescence (IF), Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the EPO epo for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Erythropoietin, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
