Testing Data
(Analysis of Protein Array containing more than 19,000 full-length human proteins using Carbonic Anhydrase VIII Mouse Monoclonal Antibody (CPTC-CA8-2). Z- and S- Score: The Z-score represents the strength of a signal that a monoclonal antibody (MAb) (in combination with a fluorescently-tagged anti-IgG secondary antibody) produces when binding to a particular protein on the HuProtTM array. Z-scores are described in units of standard deviations (SD's) above the mean value of all signals generated on that array. If targets on HuProtTM are arranged in descending order of the Z-score, the S-score is the difference (also in units of SD's) between the Z-score. S-score therefore represents the relative target specificity of a MAb to its intended target. A MAb is considered to specific to its intended target, if the MAb has an S-score of at least 2.5. For example, if a MAb binds to protein X with a Z-score of 43 and to protein Y with a Z-score of 14, then the S-score for the binding of that MAb to protein X is equal to 29.)
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene was initially named CA-related protein because of sequence similarity to other known carbonic anhydrase genes. However, the gene product lacks carbonic anhydrase activity (i.e., the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide). The gene product continues to carry a carbonic anhydrase designation based on clear sequence identity to other members of the carbonic anhydrase gene family. The absence of CA8 gene transcription in the cerebellum of the lurcher mutant in mice with a neurologic defect suggests an important role for this acatalytic form. Mutations in this gene are associated with cerebellar ataxia, mental retardation, and dysequilibrium syndrome 3 (CMARQ3). Polymorphisms in this gene are associated with osteoporosis, and overexpression of this gene in osteosarcoma cells suggests an oncogenic role. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2016]
Uniprot Description
Does not have a carbonic anhydrase catalytic activity.CautionAlthough it belongs to the alpha-carbonic anhydrase family, Arg-116 is present instead of the conserved His which is a zinc-binding residue. It is therefore expected that this protein lacks carbonic anhydrase activity.

Product Notes
The CA8 ca8 (Catalog #AAA4380717) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Carbonic Anhydrase VIII reacts with Human. Others not tested. and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Carbonic Anhydrase VIII can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistology (Formalin-Fixed). WB: 0.5-1.0ug/ml Immunohistology (Formalin-Fixed): 0.5-1ug/ml for 30 min at RT; Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM Citrate Buffer, pH 6.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CA8 ca8 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Carbonic Anhydrase VIII, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
