NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL-2 protein family. BCL-2 family members form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities. The proteins encoded by this gene are located at the outer mitochondrial membrane, and have been shown to regulate outer mitochondrial membrane channel (VDAC) opening. VDAC regulates mitochondrial membrane potential, and thus controls the production of reactive oxygen species and release of cytochrome C by mitochondria, both of which are the potent inducers of cell apoptosis. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants, which encode distinct isoforms, have been reported. The longer isoform acts as an apoptotic inhibitor and the shorter form acts as an apoptotic activator. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Uniprot Description
Bcl-xL: an antiapoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family. Located at the outer mitochondrial membrane and regulates outer mitochondrial membrane channel (VDAC) opening. VDAC regulates mitochondrial membrane potential, and thus controls the production of reactive oxygen species and release of cytochrome C by mitochondria, both of which are potent inducers of cell apoptosis. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been reported.

Product Notes
The Bcl-X bcl2l1 (Catalog #AAA6123879) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Bcl-X (Apoptosis Regulator Bcl-X, B cell lymphoma 2 like, BCL XL/S, Bcl-2-like Protein 1, Bcl2-L-1, BCL2L, Bcl2l1, BCLX, BclXL, BclXs, Protein phosphatase 1 Regulatory subunit 52, PPP1R52) (PE) reacts with Human, Mouse, Porcine, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Bcl-X can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), FLISA, Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). FC/FACS: 0.5-1ug/million cells IP: 0.5-1ug/500ug protein lysate IF: 0.5-1ug/ml WB: 0.5-1ug/ml IHC: 0.5-1ug/ml for 30 minutes at RT Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Bcl-X bcl2l1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Bcl-X, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
