Background: The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved proteins that play a role in cell motility, structure and integrity. Alpha, beta and gamma actin isoforms have been identified, with alpha actins being a major constituent of the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins are involved in the regulation of cell motility. This actin is an alpha actin that is found in skeletal muscle. Defects in this gene cause aortic aneurysm familial thoracic type 6. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2008]

Uniprot Description

ACTA2: Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in various types of cell motility and are ubiquitously expressed in all eukaryotic cells. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) leads to a structural filament (F-actin) in the form of a two-stranded helix. Each actin can bind to 4 others. Up-regulated in response to enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection. Belongs to the actin family.

Cellular Component: extracellular space; smooth muscle contractile fiber; protein complex; cytoplasm; cytosol; actin cytoskeleton

Molecular Function: protein kinase binding; ATP binding

Biological Process: muscle contraction; regulation of blood pressure; response to virus; vascular smooth muscle contraction

Product Notes

The ACTA2 acta2 (Catalog #AAA9143096) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The alpha-Smooth Muscle Actin (ACTA2) Rabbit mAb reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's alpha-Smooth Muscle Actin (ACTA2) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:50-1:200 IF: 1:50-1:200 Customer Validation: IHC: Mouse WB: Fruit Fly, Zea mays, Mouse, Rat IHC: Rat. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ACTA2 acta2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "alpha-Smooth Muscle Actin (ACTA2), Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
