Uniprot Description

MAP2: a member of the microtubule-associated protein (MAP) family. Its exact function is unknown but MAPs appear to stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. They also seem to have a stiffening effect on microtubules. Expressed at high levels in neural tissue and the prostate. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported.

Protein type: Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Cytoskeletal

Cellular Component: cell soma; cytoplasm; cytoskeleton; dendrite; dendritic shaft; intracellular; microtubule; microtubule associated complex; neuron projection; nucleolus; postsynaptic density; protein complex; rough endoplasmic reticulum; smooth endoplasmic reticulum

Molecular Function: calmodulin binding; cytoskeletal regulatory protein binding; microtubule binding; protein binding; tubulin binding

Biological Process: axonogenesis; central nervous system neuron development; dendrite development; establishment of cell polarity; microtubule bundle formation; regulation of axonogenesis

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Microtubule-associated protein 2, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
