Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for MAGEA1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any MAGEA1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MAGEA1 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MAGEA1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the MAGEA gene family. The members of this family encode proteins with 50 to 80% sequence identity to each other. The promoters and first exons of the MAGEA genes show considerable variability, suggesting that the existence of this gene family enables the same function to be expressed under different transcriptional controls. The MAGEA genes are clustered at chromosomal location Xq28. They have been implicated in some hereditary disorders, such as dyskeratosis congenita. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

MAGE-A1: a tumor antigen expressed in a variety of tumor cells and in the testis. May play a role in embryonal development and tumor transformation or aspects of tumor progression. Antigen recognized on a melanoma by autologous cytolytic T-lymphocytes.

Protein type: Cell surface

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: Xq28

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; plasma membrane; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; histone deacetylase binding

Biological Process: transcription, DNA-dependent; negative regulation of Notch signaling pathway; negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter

Product Notes

The Human MAGEA1 magea1 (Catalog #AAA918270) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA918270 ELISA Kit recognizes Human MAGEA1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "melanoma antigen family A, 1 (directs expression of antigen MZ2-E), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
