Imeglimin dramatically decreased reactive oxygen species production, inhibiting specifically reverse electron transfer through complex I. Imeglimin prevents hyperglycemia-induced cell death in HMEC-1 through inhibition of PTP opening without inhibiting mitochondrial respiration nor affecting cellular energy status[1].
