IFN-alpha, a multifunctional cytokine important in the innate immune system, has been proposed to play a major pathogenic role in the development of systemic lupus erythematosus in humans and mice. IFNA bound complement component receptor-2 (CR2) in the same affinity range as other CR2 ligands. Asokan et al. (2006) proposed that the roles of CR2 and IFNA in development of autoimmunity may be mechanistically linked to pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus. Interferon-alpha and -beta (IFN-alpha/beta) and the tumour suppressor p53 are essential for the induction of apoptosis in cancerous cells and in antiviral immune responses, respectively. The transcription of the p53 gene is induced by IFN-alpha/beta, accompanied by an increase in p53 protein level. IFN-alpha/beta signalling itself does not activate p53; rather, it contributes to boosting p53 responses to stress signals.

Product Notes

The IFN alpha 1b (Catalog #AAA355610) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's IFN alpha 1b can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, HPLC, SDS-PAGE. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the IFN alpha 1b for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IFN alpha 1b, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
