Specificity
This antibody binds to an epitope between amino acids 273-285 of human CD38, an approximately 45 kDa type II transmembrane protein, expressed on essentially all pre-B lymphocytes, plasma cells, and thymocytes. Also present on activated T lymphocytes, natural killer (NK) lymphocytes, myeloblasts, and erythroblasts. Bimodally expressed during B cell development, modulating from high in immature cells to low in intermediate ones and back to high on mature B cells. This antibody competes with clone AT13/5 (Ab00289) (Ellis 1995).

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a non-lineage-restricted, type II transmembrane glycoprotein that synthesizes and hydrolyzes cyclic adenosine 5'-diphosphate-ribose, an intracellular calcium ion mobilizing messenger. The release of soluble protein and the ability of membrane-bound protein to become internalized indicate both extracellular and intracellular functions for the protein. This protein has an N-terminal cytoplasmic tail, a single membrane-spanning domain, and a C-terminal extracellular region with four N-glycosylation sites. Crystal structure analysis demonstrates that the functional molecule is a dimer, with the central portion containing the catalytic site. It is used as a prognostic marker for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015]

Uniprot Description

CD38: Synthesizes cyclic ADP-ribose, a second messenger for glucose-induced insulin secretion. Also has cADPr hydrolase activity. Also moonlights as a receptor in cells of the immune system. Belongs to the ADP-ribosyl cyclase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The CD38 cd38 (Catalog #AAA488083) is a Recombinant Antibody and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-CD38 [HB7] reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD38 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS). A customer reports successfully using this antibody (coupled to magnetic beads) for isolation of plasma cells from the intestinal lamina propria. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD38 cd38 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD38, Recombinant Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
