Related Product Information for ORM1 active protein
Background: Found in human plasma in concentrations of 55-140 mg per 100 ml. Classical standard glycoprotein for studies on the structure of the oligosaccharide units. Carbohydrate content is 40%. Its biological significance is unknown although it can bind progesterone 15 times as strongly as albumin. Sialic-acid-deficient alpha-1-AG has an affinity for vitamin B-12. Clinically, alpha 1 acid glycoprotein is an acute-phase reactant that together with haptoglobin is an indicator of acute inflammation. The alpha 1 acid glycoprotein: haptoglobin ratio is useful in studies of bone marrow disorders, hemolytic processes and metastases.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a key acute phase plasma protein. Because of its increase due to acute inflammation, this protein is classified as an acute-phase reactant. The specific function of this protein has not yet been determined; however, it may be involved in aspects of immunosuppression. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

ORM1: Functions as transport protein in the blood stream. Binds various ligands in the interior of its beta-barrel domain. Also binds synthetic drugs and influences their distribution and availability in the body. Appears to function in modulating the activity of the immune system during the acute-phase reaction. Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Lipocalin family.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q32

Cellular Component: extracellular space; extracellular region

Molecular Function: protein binding

Biological Process: regulation of immune system process; transport; acute-phase response; inflammatory response

Product Notes

The ORM1 orm1 (Catalog #AAA844022) is an Active Protein produced from Human Plasma and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Alpha 1 Acid Glycoprotein can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, SDS-PAGE. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ORM1 orm1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Alpha 1 Acid Glycoprotein, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
