The test principle applied in this kit is Sandwich enzyme immunoassay. The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Y-Box Binding Protein 1 (YBX1). Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody specific to Y-Box Binding Protein 1 (YBX1). Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. After TMB substrate solution is added, only those wells that contain Y-Box Binding Protein 1 (YBX1), biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450nm ± 10nm. The concentration of Y-Box Binding Protein 1 (YBX1) in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

This gene encodes a highly conserved cold shock domain protein that has broad nucleic acid binding properties. The encoded protein functions as both a DNA and RNA binding protein and has been implicated in numerous cellular processes including regulation of transcription and translation, pre-mRNA splicing, DNA reparation and mRNA packaging. This protein is also a component of messenger ribonucleoprotein (mRNP) complexes and may have a role in microRNA processing. This protein can be secreted through non-classical pathways and functions as an extracellular mitogen. Aberrant expression of the gene is associated with cancer proliferation in numerous tissues. Component of cytoplasmic messenger ribonucleoprotein particles (mRNPs). Interacts with AKT1, SFRS9, THOC4, MSH2, XRCC5, WRN and NCL.
