Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate SLCO1B1 in Human serum, plasma, tissue homogenates. An antibody specific for SLCO1B1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any SLCO1B1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for SLCO1B1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SLCO1B1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description
This gene encodes a liver-specific member of the organic anion transporter family. The encoded protein is a transmembrane receptor that mediates the sodium-independent uptake of numerous endogenous compounds including bilirubin, 17-beta-glucuronosyl estradiol and leukotriene C4. This protein is also involved in the removal of drug compounds such as statins, bromosulfophthalein and rifampin from the blood into the hepatocytes. Polymorphisms in the gene encoding this protein are associated with impaired transporter function. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009]
