Principle of the Assay: Human Saliva Peroxidase (SP) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate SP in samples. An antibody specific for Human SP has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any SP present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, HRP-Conjugated SP detection antibody is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound HRP reagent, a Chromogen solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SP bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description
This gene encodes a member of the peroxidase family of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature enzyme. Following its secretion from salivary, mammary, and other mucosal glands, this enzyme catalyzes the generation of the antimicrobial substance hypothiocyanous acid. This gene is present in a gene cluster on chromosome 17. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, at least one of which encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically processed.
