Related Product Information for MUC2 elisa kit
Intended Uses: This ELISA kit applies to the in vitro quantitative determination of Human MUC2 concentrations in serum, plasma and other biological fluids.

Principle of the Assay: This ELISA kit uses the Sandwich-ELISA principle. The micro ELISA plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Human MUC2. Standards or samples are added to the micro ELISA plate wells and combined with the specific antibody. Then a biotinylated detection antibody specific for Human MUC2 and Avidin-Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugate are added successively to each micro plate well and incubated. Free components are washed away. The substrate solution is added to each well. Only those wells that contain Human MUC2, biotinylated detection antibody and Avidin-HRP conjugate will appear blue in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution and the color turns yellow. The optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm +/- 2 nm. The OD value is proportional to the concentration of Human MUC2. You can calculate the concentration of Human MUC2 in the samples by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the mucin protein family. Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins produced by many epithelial tissues. The protein encoded by this gene is secreted and forms an insoluble mucous barrier that protects the gut lumen. The protein polymerizes into a gel of which 80% is composed of oligosaccharide side chains by weight. The protein features a central domain containing tandem repeats rich in threonine and proline that varies between 50 and 115 copies in different individuals. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

MUC2: Coats the epithelia of the intestines, airways, and other mucus membrane-containing organs. Thought to provide a protective, lubricating barrier against particles and infectious agents at mucosal surfaces. Major constituent of both the inner and outer mucus layers of the colon and may play a role in excluding bacteria from the inner mucus layer.

Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted; Extracellular matrix

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11p15.5

Cellular Component: Golgi lumen

Molecular Function: protein binding

Biological Process: protein amino acid O-linked glycosylation; cellular protein metabolic process; O-glycan processing; maintenance of gastrointestinal epithelium; post-translational protein modification

Product Notes

The Human MUC2 muc2 (Catalog #AAA2509166) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA2509166 ELISA Kit recognizes Human MUC2. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MUC2, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
