Principle of the Assay: Human Kinesin-Like Protein KIF1A (KIF1A) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate KIF1A in samples. An antibody specific for KIF1A has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any KIF1A present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, HRP-Conjugated Human KIF1A detection antibody is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound HRP reagent, a Chromogen solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of KIF1A bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

Background/Introduction: KIF1A is a member of the kinesin family. This protein is highly similar to mouse heavy chain kinesin member 1A protein which is an anterograde motor protein that transports membranous organelles along axonal microtubules. It is thought that this protein may play a critical role in the development of axonal neuropathies resulting from impaired axonal transport. There are multiple polyadenylation sites found in this gene. This switch-like transition for movement could be shifted to lower PtdIns(4,5)P2 concentrations by the addition of cholesterol/sphingomyelin or GM1 ganglioside/cholera toxin, conditions that produced raft-like behavior of Unc104 bound to lipid bilayers.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the kinesin family and functions as an anterograde motor protein that transports membranous organelles along axonal microtubules. Mutations at this locus have been associated with spastic paraplegia-30 and hereditary sensory neuropathy IIC. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012]

Uniprot Description

Product Notes

The Human KIF1A kif1a (Catalog #AAA9715582) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA9715582 ELISA Kit recognizes Human KIF1A. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Kinesin-Like Protein KIF1A (KIF1A), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
